Should You Switch to LED Light Bulbs

Alternative energy and “going green” initiatives have become increasingly popular topics over the past few decades.  Scientists and researchers have been developing ways to save energy whether it is through wind, solar, geothermal, petroleum alternatives, etc.  The research shows no sign of stopping, as society continues to try to protect the environment and its resources.  The good news is that “going green” can be as easy as turning your attention to the way you light your home or office.  Light emitting diode technology or LED for short is a form of lighting that uses less electricity to power lighting applications.  They are a great replacement for traditional incandescent and fluorescent lighting sources as they require fewer watts to operate.  LEDs have longer lasting bulb lives, so once you replace a traditional incandescent, you can rest assured it will last you for quite some time (some even up to 50,000 hours!)  LED bulbs give off no harmful gasses, mercury, or radiation; helping to protect the environment.  LED light bulbs are extremely versatile and are able to fit a variety of applications including LED flood lights, LED grow lights, LED dimmable light bulbs, and many more!

LED light bulbs are beneficial for the environment and can also save you money.  If you’re still not convinced about making the change to LED bulbs, take a look at some of these facts.

Some Interesting Facts about LEDs:

  • Since LEDs contain no hazardous chemicals, they are easy to recycle.  You can bring them to your local recycling center or bring them in to any store that sells LEDs.  It’s as easy as that!
  • An LED bulb gives off a more pure form of color.  They don’t need any filters to make certain hues like incandescents.  LEDs are brighter, but still use less power.  The typical 40 watt equivalent only uses 8-10 watts.  If it’s too bright for you, there are several types of dimmable LED light bulbs that you can use to choose your light setting.
  • LED bulbs give off less energy in the form of heat, when compared to their incandescent counterparts.  The bulbs use 80% of their energy to make light and give off very little heat.  Their bulb lives are also much longer.
