Lights are everywhere, and now light emitting diodes (LEDs) are too. LEDs are the latest and most efficient lighting technology. Each traditional light bulb swapped with an LED bulb significantly cuts back energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and need for maintenance. Homeowners and businesses have taken note of such advantages. The transition to the light bulb of the future has begun. But now LED technology is going beyond the typical home and office and is being used in some unexpected places.
In 2011, it is quite possible that any light you see is LED. Historic institutions and entertainment venues alike are enjoying the more than fifty percent reduction in energy consumption and subsequent decrease in energy bills from adopting LED bulbs.
The iconic Liberty Bell in Philadelphia dates back to 1752, but nowadays it shines in a whole new light. The National Park Service has installed more than 2700 MSi iPAR 38 LED lights to illuminate the glass and steel pavilion that houses the Liberty Bell. These LED lights shining 24 hours per day have not only reduced expenses but are less harmful to the bell too. Unlike traditional bulbs, LED lights produce no ultraviolet or infrared light that is damaging to artifacts.

In June 2011, the National Archives and Records Administration continued the LED trend by installing LED fixtures to replace Metal Halide Lights illuminating the Constitution Ave Entrance. The new LED flood lights use 129w in comparison to the 400w used previously. Additionally, these bulbs need only to be replaced about once per seven years compared to every two months.
Venues internationally are gaining the positive effects of switching to LEDs as well. The United Kingdom’s National Marine Aquarium has replaced halogen lamps in main public areas with Megaman LEDs. Switching to these bulbs saves 35,734kWh annually and cuts back CO2 production by 15.4 tons. Being that LEDs produce three times less heat output than halogen lamps, the aquarium is also benefiting from decreased cooling coasts of tanks and public spaces.
LED lights are also redefining entertainment. The latest UK tour by entertainer David Guetta uses 119 panels of Pixled F-30 LED screens for an illuminated and bright stage backdrop. Not only is the 114-square-meter surface area of the panels energy efficient, but the image is bright and fluid as well. XL video supplied these high portable LED panels.
LED lighting technology has brought gardening indoors offering never before seen benefits with LED grow light bulbs. LED lighting provides more of an efficient light that will allow you to grow indoor crops better than any other grow light offered. You can choose between different colors of light, depending on which type of plant that is being grown. People no longer have to worry about frigid winters ruining their crops, but can now grow from the comfort of their own homes.
Continued innovations in LED lighting are the technology of tomorrow and will further redefine how the world is lit. Since some of the most historic and entertaining spaces in the world have switched to LED bulbs, it is time for you to reap the benefits too. From the LED bulb illuminating your front porch to the lights on one of America’s most iconic symbols, it is clear traditional bulbs are a thing of the past. LEDs are being used everywhere.
